Pathogen Surveillance Program
We established a hospital-wide Pathogen Surveillance Program (PSP) led by a multidisciplinary investigative team with a background in infectious disease, epidemiology, statistical modeling, and analyzing pathogen genomes and microbiomes.
The PSP aims to use whole-genome sequencing as a means to understand the molecular basis of evolution and transmission of infectious diseases, host-pathogen interactions, and to identify novel pathogens.
At the 2024 Mount Sinai Innovation Awards, the Pathogen Surveillance Program received the Dean’s Healthcare System Team Science Award for their multidisciplinary efforts.
